What is Direct Descendant Cremation?
Chilliwack Cemeteries offers direct descendant cremation above many casket burials.
Often it’s possible to be buried with ancestors who were casket buried years prior, allowing the family to stay together.
Markers for direct descendants are always flush with the grass and set in front of the main headstone. They can be made of either bronze or granite and can range in size.
Who Qualifies as a Direct Descendant?
A direct descendant is a child, grandchild, great-grandchild etc. of the original rights holder.
In most cases, direct descendants of the deceased are allowed to be buried with their ancestor, subject to available room.
Spouses of direct descendants are permitted to be interred with the descendant in a double vault. They cannot be interred in a single vault on their own.
Siblings and other family members are not the direct descendants of the original rights holder and in most cases cannot be interred.
What is Needed for Direct Descendant Cremation Interment?
Direct descendant cremations are a form of in-ground cremation and are subject to the same requirements such as:
- Right of interment
- Vault
- Opening and closing
